World Health Organization Begins Awareness Campaign On Antibiotic Use

The first ever World Antibiotic Awareness Week begins today 16 and runs through till 22 November 2015. It is a campaign aimed at increasing awareness of global antibiotic resistance.

The theme of the campaign Antibiotics: Handle with care reflects the overarching  message that antibiotics are a precious resource and should be preserved.

Antibiotics should be used to treat bacterial infections only when prescribed by a health professional, it should never be shared or transferred to somebody else and the full course of treatment should be completed (WHO).

The organization has called on all Member States and health partners to join in the campaign and help raise awareness among the general public, health workers and policy makers.
