* Avoid Triggers: Know what triggers your heartburn symptoms and stay away from them. For example spicy foods, peppermint, citrus fruits, onions etc.
* Stop Smoking: Nicotine present in cigarettes can weaken the muscle that controls the opening between the stomach and the oesophagus, thereby allowing contents of the stomach to easily enter the oesophagus.
* Eat at least two to three hours before going to bed: This gives food time to empty from your stomach which will in turn reduce acid levels before you lie down- a position where heartburn is more likely to occur.
* Don't overeat: You can eat four to five small portion instead of three large ones.
* Eat Slowly
* Avoid alcohol
