The health benefits of Vitamin C are numerous and includes protection against immune deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling.
Vitamin C is likely safe when taken in recommended doses but at very large doses, it might cause nausea, diarrhoea, heartburn, stomach cramps, vomiting, headache and other side effects. The chance of getting these side effects increases with dose. At amounts greater than 2000mg daily, Vitamin C causes severe diarrhoea and can lead to the development of kidney stones. In people who have had a kidney stone, amounts greater than 1000mg daily greatly increase the risk of kidney stone recurrence.
