Device Approved For Diabetic Foot Ulcers

A device made of silicone, cow collagen and shark cartilage which is known as the Integra Omnigraft Dermal Regeneration Matrix has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat diabetic foot ulcers.

The device is placed over the sore and provides an environment that favours development of new skin and tissue.

It was first approved in 1996 to treat life-
threatening burns when a skin graft isn't possible. It has now been approved for diabetic foot ulcers lasting longer than six
weeks that don't involve any exposed bones, joints or tendons.
