Dealing with chronic migraine can be very tough, but here are some tips you can try to keep the pain at bay:
Try relaxation exercises: Stress is a major cause of headaches and relaxation exercises often helps relieve stress. Learn skills that can calm you, like deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation.
Know your triggers: Know the food that triggers your headaches. This varies from patient to patient. You can keep a diary to learn what sets off your headaches so you can avoid these things when possible.
Stick to a schedule: Eat meals and snacks at about the same times during the day. Go to bed and wake up on a set schedule.
Stay off caffeine: Caffeine often helps patients feel better but the reality is that caffeine withdrawal is what is giving them their headaches. They have caffeine and they feel better, but two hours later they need more caffeine.
Take MagnesiumSupplements: Magnesium deficiency can cause migraine headaches for some people. To supplement with magnesium, start with 400 mg daily.
Practise prevention: If you get headaches around your menstrual period, take preventive medication when your time of the month is near. Or if you get the signs that you may soon have a migraine attack, take a preventive medication as prescribed by your doctor.
